Iran’s ‘Exam’ wins award at Tirana filmfest

Iran’s ‘Exam’ wins award at the 18th Tirana International Film Festival in Albania.

Iranian short flick ‘Exam’ has won an award at the 18th Tirana International Film Festival (TIFF) in Albania.

Directed by Sonia Haddad, the 15-minute work received the award for Best Live Action Short Film at the Albanian event.

It is “a simple story that has illustrated enough about the position of women and youngsters against authority and repression. For its everlasting effect and progressive change of emotion, for its surprising cycle of events, for its lead teenager actress and her weary fatigued distinguished face that carried the story until a poignant closure,” the festival’s jury wrote about ‘Exam’.

The short film narrates the story of a girl named Sadaf who has forebodings for the exam she is going to take.

But today, instead of going to school, she delivers a package of illegal drugs to a client and gets caught in a weird cycle of events.

‘Exam’ has already grabbed awards such as the AFI fest award which made the title qualified for the short film category of the 2021 Oscars.

The 35th Sundance Film Festival in the US also honored the flick’s star Sadaf Asgari with the Special Jury Award.

Haddad’s work received a special mention at the 21st ShorTS International Film Festival in Italy and Best Short Award at the 42nd Créteil International Women's Film Festival in France.

The flick has also competed at many other film events, including the Charlotte Film Festival in the US, the Landshut Kurzfilm Festival in Germany, the Annapolis Film Festival in the US, the Film Fest Sundsvall in Sweden, the Brattleboro Women’s Film Festival in the US, the Skepto International Film Festival in Italy, and the Loudoun Arts Film Festival in the US.
